Half Day Tour of Santorini’s South Side
It is hard to see all that Santorini’s south side has to offer in just a half day. By taking a private south tour in Santorini, you will have the opportunity to see and experience so much of what the island has to offer.
You will have a chance to personalize the tour to see the areas that are of most interest to you, whether you care more about the history around the island or prefer to spend more time looking at the stunning views or enjoying the beaches. Your dedicated expert tour guide details the history of each site so that you walk away fully informed of the importance of what you are seeing.
A Santorini half day tour is not complete without a stop at a traditional winery. Indulge in the fine local wines and become privy to the secrets of winemaking. Many visitors choose to close their tour with the winery so that they have more time to enjoy the wine tasting experience.
The Santorini southern side is home to some charming villages that are stops on your half-day tour. The village of Pyrgos is home to ruins of an old Venetian castle. You can walk around the paths on a guided tour and see the remnants of the village that was once the island’s capital.
Tour the village of Megalochori to experience the traditional culture of Santorini. The village still has many buildings build in the traditional architecture that you will see as you walk around the streets.
The final village that will be part of your south tour in Santorini is Emporio, which is also the largest village. As part of your tour, you will not only get to walk around the village, but you also see some stunning views of the island. There are also historic windmills and nearby ruins worth a look. There is the remnants of a famous tower that dates back to the Medieval times, known as Goulas, as well as the ruins of a Byzantine fortress, Kasteli.
No trip to Santorini is complete without visiting the beaches. On the south side, there is the Black Beach and the Red Beach. The Red Beach offers unique views, named due to the color of the sand. The cliffs behind the beach feature soaring red lava that goes right into the shore and majestic blue sea for a truly stunning view.
The Red Beach is close to Akrotiri, which you might know as the Minoan Pompeii. Some say that Plato’s story of Atlantis is connected to the story of the ancient town of Akrotiri. Similar to Pompeii, a volcanic eruption destroyed the town in 1450. The volcanic ash kept the Minoan city well-preserved. Archeologists discovered three-story buildings, furniture, pottery and even an advanced drainage system.
As you embark on your 5-hour Santorini half-day tour around the southern side of the isle, you will experience so much of what the island has to offer. You also have the chance to hike up the famous peak of Prophet Ilias, which is the highest mountain on the island at 2,000 feet above sea level. It leaves you breathless from the amazing views, and you have the chance to walk inside the Greek Christian monastery at the summit.
With a private tour of the island, you have the chance to visit each of these locations, focusing on the experience that you wish to gain from your tour. You have a professional guide and will be picked up and dropped off from the point of your choice.
Choose your pickup point from either your hotel, the cruise ship terminal or another spot in Santorini to get your Santorini South Side Tour off to the perfect start.

Thanks to Alex for the wonderful tour in Santorini and also to Stan, our guide. They showed us the best sights at the same time allowed us to take pictures and buy items along the way. Filipinos love pictures and make selfies. It was a relaxing experience but the views were breathtaking. Both Alex and Stan and Greek people we’ve encountered were very kind! Maraming salamat sa inyo.
We booked a sightseeing tour with company Top Santorini Tours based on the website reviews and we couldn’t have been happier.
I would definitely go on other tours with this company and recommend them to friends. On the minibus, we were able to go places and see things a large bus just couldn’t do. Thanks again Konstantinos! We had a great time.
We booked a private tour of the island so that we could see everything that we wanted to. Our guide was Elena and she was the best!!!! Can’t say enough about her. She told us information and history of every site that we went to, she was always there to take photos of the group of us and she even quizzed us later on what she told us!!! She made sure the tour was exactly to our liking and even went over the time that we paid for to make sure we saw everything. Our driver was excellent too!!! I wish I remembered his name!
